The clients we work with are typically facing a significant patrimonial decision: the sale or acquisition of a business, an inheritance or family wealth transfer, a family or ownership restructuring, a major real estate transaction in Spain, or a change in residence with implications for how assets are owned, governed or taxed.

What these situations have in common is that they cannot be approached as isolated legal matters. The decisions made today often have consequences that extend for years, affecting ownership, succession, taxation and family interests simultaneously.

We also advise clients who are not facing an immediate transaction or event, but who wish to assess whether their current structures remain appropriate. In these cases, our role is to identify risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement before they become problems, ensuring that what is in place today remains fit for what comes next.

You can, and in many situations that is entirely appropriate.

The difficulty arises when decisions in one area have consequences in another. In patrimonial matters, this is often the rule rather than the exception. The risk of approaching each issue in isolation is not that the advice is wrong. Each recommendation may be technically correct. The risk is that, taken together, the overall outcome is not.

We frequently encounter situations where a corporate structure that works well from a company law perspective creates avoidable succession difficulties; where a real estate acquisition is sound legally but inefficient from a tax perspective; or where an inheritance is accepted without a full understanding of the liabilities and obligations that accompany it.

Our role is to maintain a complete view of the situation, ensuring that decisions taken in one area support, rather than undermine, the objectives of another.

Yes. Many of our clients already have trusted advisors in place, whether financial, tax or legal.

We see this as a strength, not an obstacle. Our role is to provide independent legal counsel in Spain while ensuring that the various pieces of advice fit together within a coherent patrimonial framework.

Where necessary, we work closely with existing advisors so that decisions made in one jurisdiction or area of expertise support, rather than undermine, the objectives of another.
